Lauren Butler (SR, Burnsville, Minn.) claimed a career-best 10 kills and added a match-best three service aces as the Augsburg College volleyball team cruised to a three-set sweep (25-12, 25-13, 25-4) over Crown College in a nonconference match on Tuesday evening at Si Melby Hall.
Tuesday's match marked Think Pink" night at Si Melby Hall, where fans were encouraged to wear pink in an effort to raise awareness and support for the fight against breast cancer.
After falling behind early in the first set, the Auggies (13-10 overall) scored the next five points and would not relinquish the led for the rest of the match en route to the three set win over the Storm. Augsburg led wire-to-wire in each of the final two sets, including a 25-4 win in the third set that marked the Auggies' largest margin of victory in a set the 25-point rally scoring era (2007-present).
Butler added four digs and two block assists to go along with a team-best .556 hitting percentage.
Ashley Peper (FY, Bloominton, Minn./Jefferson HS) claimed a match-best 12 kills, while hitting .391 with three blocks, while
Micha Sater (SR, Fridley, Minn./Centennial HS) and
Tabby Roh (SO, LaCrosse, Wis.) added four kills each.
Jamila Lee (SR, Richfield, Minn.) added three kills and a match-high five blocks (one solo) for Augsburg.
Shelby Vogel (SO, Sheldon, Iowa) claimed a match-best 18 assists and seven digs for the Auggies, while defensive specialist
Mackensie Menke (SO, Prior Lake, Minn./Shakopee HS) recorded a match-high 13 digs.
For Crown (3-21 overall) Katie Herrmann (FY, Perham, Minn.) claimed a team-high seven kills, while setter Judy Mundt-Metzger (SR, Utica, Minn./Lewiston-Altura HS) recorded a team-high 12 assists.
Augsburg returns to action this Friday (10/16) at 7 p.m., with a key Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road match against St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.
