Auggies earn sweep over Pipers

BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Ashley Peper (FY, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) claimed a match-best 15 kills and hit .353 during the match, as the Augsburg College volleyball team earned a three-set sweep (25-20, 26-24, 25-20) over Hamline University in the Auggies' final Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest of the regular season on Friday evening at Hutton Arena.

The two teams traded points throughout the early part of the first set before Augsburg (15-12 overall, 5-6 MIAC) used a 9-5 scoring run late in the set to earn a 25-20 win. Both teams played even through most of the second set, before the Pipers (18-12 overall, 1-10 MIAC) took a 23-21 lead late in the set. The Auggies responded however, winning five out of the final six points in the set to secure the win and commanding 2-0 match lead. Augsburg would go on to win the third set 25-20 to close out the match and earn the victory.

The win marks the fifth consecutive season that Augsburg has reached the 15-win plateau, the third consecutive season under head coach Jane Becker

Peper added seven digs and two block assists to go along with a team-best 15 kills and .353 hitting percentage. Micha Sater (SR, Fridley, Minn./Centennial HS) added eight kills, while Nikolene Miller (SR, Tomahawk, Wis.) recorded five kills and hit .227. Miller also added a match-best six blocks (two solo). 

Emily McCourt (JR, Sun Prairie, Wis.) claimed a team-best 28 assists and nine digs for the Auggies, while defensive specialist Emma Sievers (SO, Saint Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) recorded a match-high 21 digs.

For Hamline, Katie Ayres (FY, Loveland, Colo./Thompson Valley) claimed a team-high 14 kills, while setter Becka Mozes (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.) recorded a match-high 30 assists.

Augsburg will close out the regular season on Saturday (10/26) at 5 p.m. with a nonconference match against the University of Minnesota-Morris at Si Melby Hall. Saturday's match marks the final appearances for Augsburg seniors Lauren Butler, Jamila Lee, Nikolene Miller and Micha Sater.
