Skriba leads Auggies past Northwestern

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Anne Skriba (JR, La Crosse, Wis./Fond Du Lac HS) led the Augsburg College women's basketball team to a 70-56 win over Northwestern College-Roseville in nonconference action on Monday night at Si Melby Hall. With the win, the Auggies remain unbeaten on the season and for the second consecutive year, begin the season 2-0

Skriba, in her second game in an Auggie uniform, posted her second-consecutive career-high night, scoring 19 points and adding five rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists. Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg was Abbey Luger (SO, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) and Brittany Zins (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS). Luger tied a career-high, recording 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting, while Zins finished with 13 points and a season-high nine rebounds.

Northwestern (2-2) was led by Jessica Fife, who finished with 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Auggies sprinted out to an 11-3 lead but Northwestern was able to battle back and tie the game 14-14 at the 11:04 mark. After a three-minute scoreless streak by both teams, Augsburg went on a 10-0 run to take a 24-16 lead with just over five-and-a-half minutes to play in the first half. Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half but the Auggies were able to convert on a jumper by Zins as the buzzer sounded to take a 33-27 lead at the break.

Augsburg used a 12-2 run to break the lead to double-digits for the first time of the evening at the 9:46 mark of the second-half. The Eagles were able to cut the Auggie lead to 55-51 with just under five-and-a-half minutes to play but Augsburg used a quick 9-1 run to extend the lead back to double-digits. Augsburg scored the final six points of the game and earned the 70-56 victory.

For the game, Augsburg shot 41.2 percent (28-of-68), while Northwestern converted on 37.5 percent (18-of-48) of its shots. The Auggies claimed a 40-37 advantage on the boards and a 31-6 advantage in points off turnovers. Augsburg was also able to claim a 14-0 advantage in fast break points and a 38-12 advantage in points in the paint.

Augsburg returns to action on Wednesday (11/28) when it hosts Gustavus Adolphus College in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
