Ayrton Scott (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) accounted for 403 yards of total offense -- throwing for four touchdowns and rushing for two more -- as his Augsburg College football team rallied for a 58-41 victory over Macalester College in a nonconference contest on Saturday afternoon at Macalester Stadium.
Augsburg (6-3 overall) rallied from a 20-0 first-quarter deficit with a 34-point second quarter to lead 34-27 at halftime, eventually producing 508 yards of total offense compared to 478 yards for Macalester (5-4 overall).
Scott rushed 23 times for 167 yards, while completing 21-of-32 passing for 236 yards and four touchdowns against one interception.
Jerise Washington (SO, Roseville, Minn./Mounds View HS) rushed for 101 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown, while
Adam Carl (JR, Eagan, Minn.) caught nine passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, and
Tyler Swanson (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) caught four passes for 61 yards, including three touchdowns.
Augsburg is now 6-3 overall, matching last season's six-victory total (6-4). If Augsburg wins its season finale next Saturday (11/10) at 1 p.m. against Carleton at the Metrodome, the Auggies will claim their most victories in a single season since its 10-2 MIAC championship season in 1997.
The Scots took a 20-0 lead in the first 10:49 of play, capitalizing on three Augsburg turnovers in its first four possessions -- two fumbles on kickoff returns and an interception. But Augsburg stormed back, outscoring the Scots 34-7 in the second quarter to lead 34-27 at halftime.
A 10-play, 75-yard drive put the Auggies on the scoreboard, capped when Scott threw his first touchdown pass to Swanson, a three-yarder. Augsburg's defense recovered fumbles on the Scots' next two possessions, and the Auggies cut into the lead when Scott rushed for a 10-yard touchdown. The Scots scored to increase their lead to 27-14, but Augsburg scored three straight touchdowns to take the lead -- a 30-yard pass from Scott to Swanson, a seven-yard touchdown run by Washington, and a 16-yard pass from Scott to Swanson.
Augsburg scored four times in the second half, with Scott scoring on a three-yard run, Carl scoring on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Scott,
Wesley Waytashek (SR, Little Falls, Minn.) connecting on a 30-yard field goal, and
Hakeem Bourne-McFarlane (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) scoring on a 41-yard interception return.
Bryce Vee (SR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Blaine HS) collected 13 tackles (eight solo), including a tackle-for-loss and a fumble recovery, to lead the Augsburg defense.
Enrico Barrozo (JR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had 11 tackles (three solo) and a pass breakup, and
Sean Crayne (SR, Trimont, Minn./Martin County West HS) had eight tackles (five solo) and a fumble recovery.
Aaron Perry (SR, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) had 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries for Augsburg.
