Dan Kornbaum (JR, Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS) and
Brett Rasmussen (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) teamed up to lead the Augsburg College men's basketball team to an 81-76 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall. With the win, the Auggie move to 5-0 overall (2-0 MIAC), while Concordia falls to 3-3 overall (1-1 MIAC).
Kornbaum posted his second double-double of the season with a 18-point, 13-rebound effort, while Rasmussen led the Auggies in scoring with a team-high 20 points. Kornbaum finished 7-of-12 from the field and tied a season-high with five blocked shots and added a pair of assists. Rasmussen and added six boards and three assists to his 7-of-13 shooting effort, which included a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Also finishing in double figures for Augsburg was
Noah Veach (JR, Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven HS) and
Parker Hines (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS), who finished with 15 points each.
Concordia was led by Ebo Nana-Kweson, who finished with a game-high 26 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the floor.
The Auggies scored the first four points of the game and never relinquished the lead. Augsburg was able to extend its lead to as many as nine points and look a 37-30 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
The Auggies outscored the Cobbers 10-3 over a 3:20 span in the second half to take their largest lead of the afternoon at 59-44 with 10:22 to play. Concordia chipped the Augsburg lead down to seven on multiple occassions, but the Auggie free-throw shooters were able to hold on for the Augsburg 81-76 victory.
For the game, Augsburg shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the field, while the Cobbers converted on 44.8 percent (30-of 67) of their shots. The Auggies claimed a 40-37 advantage on the boards and shot more than 40 percent from three-point range for the fourth time this season.
Augsburg and Concordia both return to action on Monday (12/3) when the Auggies head to Arden Hills to take on the Bethel Royals at 7:30 p.m., while the Cobbers travel to St. Paul to take on the University of St. Thomas.
