Serenae Levine (SR, Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball team to a 65-61 victory over Carleton College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall.
With the win, the Auggies move to 13-11 overall (10-11 MIAC), while the Knights fall to 3-21 overall (2-19 MIAC). Augsburg is now just one win shy of the tying its school record for wins in a season -- 14-11 overall set in 1983-84 -- and is also one win shy of tying the win total for the previous three seasons combined.
The Auggies finished with three players in double figures, led by Levine's 18-point, six-assist, four-rebound effort. Levine finished perfect from beyond the arc (2-of-2) and from the free-throw line (2-of-2), while shooting 7-of-12 from the field. Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg was
Abbey Luger (FY, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) and
Lexi Thompson (SR, St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS). Luger finished with 11 points and three rebounds, while Thompson scored 10 points, shooting 4-for-5 despite battling foul trouble.
Carleton (3-21 overall, 2-19 MIAC) finished with four players in double figures, led by Skylar Tsutsui, who finished with 16 points and a pair of steals, whie shooting a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
In a game that saw seven tied scores and nine lead changes, Augsburg was able to go on a key 9-2 run late in the second half to and was able to hold on for the win.
For the game, Augsburg shot 44.2 percent (23-of-52) from the field, while Carleton hit 36.7 percent (18-of-49) of its shots. The Auggies claimed a dominate 38-24 advantage on the boards, including finishing just one short of their season-high with 20 offensive rebounds. Augsburg outscored the Knights 28-20 in points in the paint, but Carleton was able to keep it close with a 22-of-23 performance at the free throw line.
Both Augsburg and Carleton will wrap up their seasons on Saturday (2/15) with the Auggies hosting St. Catherine University for Senior/Parents night, while the Knights travel to cross-town rival St. Olaf College to finish the regular season.
