Auggies shine in season finale

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Leading from start to finish, the Augsburg College women's basketball team finished its 2011-12 season with a 52-31 victory over St. Catherine University in the season finale for both Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference squads on Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

With the win, Augsburg finishes its season at 14-11 overall (11-11 MIAC), matching the Auggies' 1983-84 campaign (14-11) for the most victories in a single season in the school's varsity women's basketball history (since 1972-73). The 11 MIAC wins also matches the 1983-84 (11-9) and 1984-85 (11-9) seasons for the most conference wins in a single season in Augsburg history.

Under first-year head coach Bill McKee and first-year assistants Katie Alsdurf and Larissa Parr, the Auggies' 14 wins this season also equaled the number of Auggie victories in the prior three seasons combined (14-61). The 2011-12 campaign marked the first double-digit win season for Augsburg since 2000-01 (11-13), the seventh double-digit win campaign in the varsity era (since 1972-73), and its first .500-or-above season since 1984-85 (13-11).

On a day where the Auggies' five seniors were honored in their last collegiate games, each played a significant role in Saturday's victory.
