BOXSCORE ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg College women's soccer team suffered a 5-0 loss to a tough Macalester College squad in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Macalester stadium.
Augsburg was led offensively by
Taylor Kuramoto (SO, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS), who recorded three shots on goal, while
Bri Clark (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) added a pair of shots on goal.
Augsburg claimed a 8-7 advantage in shots in the second half, but was outshot 16-14 for the contest. Corner kicks were tied at 2-2 in the second half but Macalester edged the Auggies 5-3 for the game.
"I don't want to discredit Macalester, they came out strong, used the wind to their advantage and did well to take advantage of a couple of mistakes in our back line. However, I genuinely feel that the lopsided score of this game is an aberration and not indicative of the quality of our players or our team. We have opportunities in our remaining games to prove this, starting with another one of the best teams in the league in St Thomas on Saturday," said head coach
Mike Navarre.
Augsburg keeper
Katie Gajewski (JR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) recorded three saves in 57 minutes of action, while
Lexi Felix (FY, Kailua, Hawaii/Iolani HS) recorded two saves in 32 minutes of action.
Macalester was led by Georgia Cloepfil who scored one goald and added two assists.
Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (9/22) when it hosts the University of St. Thomas in an MIAC contest at 1 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
