BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS --Â
Dave Weber (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) connected on a 3-pointer to give the Augsburg College men's basketball team a 97-94 lead  with four seconds remaining, as the Auggies held on to claim a 97-95 nonconference victory over Buena Vista University in the season opener for both teams.
In a game that featured 15 lead changes and 7 tied scores, fans certainly were not dissapointed. Both Augsburg and Buena Vista were picked to finish second in their respective conferences, so it was certainly not a surprise that things went down to the wire. After Augsburg claimed a two-point advantage at the intermission, BVU found itself up 86-78 with just over two minutes to play in the second-half. But Augsburg showed composure down the stretch and went on an 8-0 run to close the second-half and force overtime.
BVU found itself up 94-91 with 2:25 to play in overtime. After missed baskets by both teams,Â
Dan Kornbaum (SR, Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS) pulled down a big offensive rebound, converted on the put-back and was fouled to tie things at 94-94 with 1:25 to play. Both teams had chances over the next minute, but Weber's 3-pointer with 4 seconds to play proved to be the game winner as Augsburg went up 97-94. The Auggies fouled and put BVU's Nick Clark (SO, Fort Dodge, Iowa/St. Edmond) on the line. Clark converted on the first and the Beavers were not able to put back his intentional second shot-miss as the Auggies claimed the overtime victory.
Offensively, Augsburg was led by career-high nights fromÂ
Andy Seidlitz (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and
Noah Veach (SR, Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven HS). Seidlitz finished with 30 points on 9-for-13 shooting from the floor, including a 5-of-6 performance from beyond the arc, while adding four assists and five steals. Veach finished with 24 points, on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor and added five assists and four rebounds.
Dan Kornbaum led the Auggies on the boards finishing with 11 rebounds and 15 points, the eigth double-double of his Auggie career.
Buena Vista was led by Cole Darrow (JR, Glenwood, Iowa), who scored a game-high 34 points on 14-of-21 shooting from the floor. Nick Wuebker (SO, Ayrshire, Iowa/Emmetsburg) also had a strong night for the Beavers posting an 11-point, 10-rebound effort.
For the game, Augsburg shot 53.7 percent (36-of-67) from the field, while the Beavers connected on 54.7 percent (35-of-64) of their shots. Both teams finished with an identical 35 rebounds, while Augsburg claimed a slight advantage in shooting from beyond the arc, finishing 9-of-16, while BVU finished shooting 7-of-14 from downtown.
Augsburg and BVU both return to action tomorrow night. The Auggies play host to Simpson College, while Buena Vista travels to St. Peter, Minn. to take on Gustavus Adolphus College.
