Perea leads Augsburg in loss to Cobbers

BOXSCORE MOORHEAD, Minn. --  Richie Perea (FY, Colorado Springs, Colo./Wasson HS) scored a career-high 12 points, but it wasn't enough as the Augsburg College men's basketball team fell 68-57 to Concordia College-Moorhead in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Memorial Auditorium. 

After leading 30-25 at the half, Augsburg gave up a 15-1 run to start the second half. The Auggies pulled the score to 44-40 in favor of the Cobbers with 6:02 to play in the game, but the Cobbers hit back-to-back 3-pointers on stretch their lead to double digits. Augsburg cut the lead to seven on multiple occassions but couldn't get any closer as the Cobbers went on to claim the 68-57 victory over the Auggies.

Augsburg was led offensively by Perea and Dan Kornbaum (SR, Little Falls, Minn./Little Falls HS), who finished with 12 points apiece. Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Noah Veach (SR, Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven HS), who finished with 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor.

Concordia finished with four players in double figures, led by Brady Syverson, who posted a game-high 17 points, which included a 5-for-7 night from the floor and six rebounds.

For the game, Augsburg shot 40.0 percent (22-of-55) from the floor, while Concordia was able to hit 46.9 percent (23-of-49) of its shots. The Cobbers claimed a 35-28 advantage on the boards and were able to hit 17-of-21 from the free-throw line, while the Auggies could only convert on 5-of-10.

Augsburg returns to action on Friday-Saturday (12/20-21) when it travels to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to take part in the Cruzin Classic. The Auggies will face Wartburg College on Friday night at 6 p.m. (ET) and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. (ET).
