Auggies score 4-1 win at Saint Mary's

WINONA, Minn. -- Olivia Muyres (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) and Marie Fitzgerald (SO, Fort Atkinson, Wis.) scored two goals each, leading the Augsburg College women's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Saint Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Wednesday afternoon at Ochrymowycz Field.

With the victory, Augsburg remains unbeaten at 5-0-3 overall, 1-0-0 in MIAC play, while Saint Mary's falls to 0-5-0 overall, 0-1-0 in MIAC play. Augsburg has now outscored its opponents by a 30-5 margin to start the season, with its goal total 14 more than the second-highest scoring team in the MIAC (Saint Benedict's 16).

With two goals and an assist, the game was Muyres' third straight multiple-goal contest, giving her a MIAC-leading 11 goals and 27 points. In her last three contests, Muyres has scored six goals with two assists -- in a span where her team has outscored its foes by a 12-1 margin. Her 11 goals are now tied for fifth-most in a single season in school history (the school record, 14, was set by Kristin Totushek in 1997), while her 27 points is now tied for fourth-most in a single season in school history (the school record, 38 -- 13 goals and 12 assists -- was set by Kara Seibel in 1995).

Meanwhile, Fitzgerald recorded her second multiple-goal game of the season, giving her six goals and 15 points on the season -- the goal total third and the point total tied for second among MIAC players in overall statistics.

Muyres started the scoring at the 22:17 mark, scoring from Molly Allen (JR, Stillwater, Minn.). Fitzgerald scored her first goal of the contest at the 48:02 mark, assisted by Morgan Kenny (FY, Wauwatosa, Wis./Brookfield Central HS) and Muyres. Maris Bolender (FY, Sioux Falls, S.D./O'Gorman HS) assisted on the final two Auggie goals -- from Muyres at the 67:00 mark and from Fitzgerald at the 73:19 mark.

Saint Mary's scored its lone goal with 56 seconds left in the contest, as Bethany Schmidt scored from Kelli Harstad.

Augsburg outshot Saint Mary's by a 26-7 margin in the game. Katie Gajewski (SR, Wausau, Wis./Wausau East HS) claimed one save in 73 minutes of work in goal for the Auggies, with Lucy Bukowski recording one saves in relief. Miranda Halling had 12 saves in goal for Saint Mary's.

Augsburg hosts Bethel in a conference contest on Saturday (9/21) at 7 p.m. at Edor Nelson Field.
