MINNEAPOLIS -- Colleen Ourada (SR, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) recorded 10 kills, 16 digs and two blocks (one solo) for the Augsburg College volleyball team, picking up its third consecutive sweep and second in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition, topping Carleton College Friday evening at Si Melby Hall.
Of the Auggies' 13 wins this season, they have swept their opponent 10 times. Augsburg is now 42-7 in its 49 sets played this year.
Ashley Peper (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS), who ranks first in the MIAC with a 4.76 kills-per-set average, recorded 14 kills and seven digs to lead the Auggies (13-2 overall, 2-0 MIAC) to the win.Â
Augsburg jumped out to a quick 7-3 lead early in the first set, and led 20-14 late in the set before the Knights (9-5 overall, 0-2 MIAC) started to crawl back and trimmed the lead to three at 22-19. Back-to-back kills by Peper and Taylor Trautman (FY, Hutchinson, Minn.) got the Auggies to game point, when a Knight attacking error finished the set.Â
The second set was tighter from the start, but the Auggies trailed only once at 6-7, and the match ended with the same score as the first at 25-20. As a team, the Auggies hit .500 to close out the final set by a 25-10 score.
Jessica Lillquist (SO, Sebeka, Minn.) had a great match and helped the Auggies slam the door with four of her nine kills coming in the final set, while hitting .500 for the match. Emily McCourt (SR, Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded a match-best 42 assists, as well as five digs, three kills and a block. Trautman finished with five kills, four digs and two blocks (one solo).
Others contributing for Augsburg included Ellen Sachs (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS), with two kills, a dig and a block, while Kali Kuusisto (FY, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) picked up the first kill of her career. Dee Dee Maier (FY, Middleton, Wis.) and Jaelyn Arndt (FY, Osage, Iowa/Minnepolis Washburn HS) contributed three and two kills respectively.Â
Katelyn Berens (SR, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) is making the most out of her senior year as the anchor of the Auggie backline, and picked up 16 digs, two assists, and a service ace in Friday's sweep.Â
For Carleton, Sami Kemper led the way with nine kills, while Caroline Duke and Karen Halls had four kills each. Camille Benson had 12 digs, and Rachel Johnson recorded two blocks (one solo).
The Auggies return to action next Wednesday (9/25) when they travel to Northfield, Minn. to take on St. Olaf at 7 p.m.Â
