Augsburg improves to 15-2 with win over Hamline

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- With two players recording kill-dig double-doubles, the Augsburg College volleyball team improved to 15-2 overall with a four-set victory over Hamline University (25-17, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15) in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

Ashley Peper (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) claimed her sixth double-double of the season with 20 kills, 12 digs, four blocks (two solo), hitting .366, while Colleen Ourada (SR, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) claimed her seventh double-double of the year, and fourth in a six-match span, with 17 kills, 13 digs, three blocks (one solo) and a service ace.

Augsburg, the No. 21-ranked team in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III national poll, improved to 15-2 overall with its 11th victory in a row, remaining unbeaten in MIAC play at 4-0. Hamline drops to 9-7 overall, 2-2 in MIAC play.

Libero Katelyn Berens (SR, Jordan, Minn./Prior Lake HS) collected 24 digs, and setter Emily McCourt (SR, Sun Prairie, Wis.) recorded 54 assists, along with seven kills and a service ace. Jessica Lillquist (SO, Sebeka, Minn.) hit .529 on the day, claiming 11 kills to go with three block assists. Taylor Trautman (FY, Hutchinson, Minn.) had seven kills and four block assists, and Jaelyn Arndt (FY, Osage, Iowa/Minneapolis Washburn HS) had five kills and four blocks (one solo).

Hamline was paced by Stephanie Kaup (JR, Chandler, Ariz./Corona Del Sol HS), who had 12 kills and four blocks (two solo). Sam Greeney-Hamlin (SR, St. Cloud, Minn./Cathedral HS) and Paige Walters (JR, Nevis, Minn.) had nine kills each, and Michelle Mattke (SO, Owatonna, Minn.) and Caitlyn Gottwald (JR, Paynesville, Minn.) had eight kills each. Molly Hurrie (SR, Kimball, Minn.) had 42 assists, and Lynsey Reimer (JR, Peosta, Iowa/Western Dubuque HS) had 22 digs.

As a team, Augsburg hit .303 on the afternoon, its fourth match hitting better than .300 on the season and third in its last four matches. The Auggies scored a .425 effort in the first set, claiming 19 kills against just two errors in 40 attempts. Hamline was limited to a .173 attack percentage (the 16th time an Auggie opponent hit under .200 on the season) and was blocked 11 times in the match -- a season-high team blocks for the Auggies.

Hamline snapped Augsburg's streak of three-set sweeps at four matches, but the Auggies improved to 48-10 in its 58 sets so far this season.

Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Wednesday (10/2) at 7 p.m. with a match at Bethel University.
