Lillquist scores career-high 24, leads Auggies past Scots

BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- Jessica Lillquist (SO, Sebeka, Minn./Sebeka HS) scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball team to an important 63-46 victory over Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg (6-4 overall, 3-4 MIAC) has now posted three consecutive conference victories and is coming off its best three shooting performances of the season. The Auggies continue to play great team basketball, recording 22 assists on 24 made baskets.

The Auggies were led by Lillquist's 24-point effort, which included an 8-of-10 afternoon from the floor and 8-of-12 performance from the free-throw line. Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies was Jill Tichy (SR, Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka HS), who finished with 10 points and four assists. Abbey Luger (JR, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) led the Auggies on the boards, posting 10 rebounds while adding nine points, four assists and a pair of steals.

Macalester was led offensively by Erika Weimann, who came off the bench to score 11 points, while adding a rebound and a steal.

Augsburg started the game on a 14-2 run and led by as many as 14 points before taking a 30-16 lead into the locker room at the intermission. The Auggies held the Scots to just 14.7 percent (5-of-34) shooting in the first half. Augsburg didn't let up in the second half, stretching its lead to as many as 22 points before cruising on to the 63-46 victory.

For the game, Augsburg shot a season-high 47.1 percent from the floor (12-of-27), while Macalester connected on just 26.9 percent (14-of-52) of its shots. The Scots grabbed a narrow 36-34 advantage on the boards, but the Auggies were able to claim a 30-14 advantage in points in the paint and a 16-7 advantage in points off turnovers.

Augsburg will return to action on Wednesday (1/15), when the Auggies host Carleton College in MIAC action scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
