BOXSCORE MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College men's basketball team shot a season-high 63.9 percent from the field as they cruised past Saint Mary's University 97-60 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Monday night at Si Melby Hall. With the win, the Auggies move to 11-4 overall (7-3 MIAC), while the Cardinals fall to 2-13 overall (1-9 MIAC).
The Auggies have now won six in a row and continued to have big scoring nights from the trio of Â
Dan Kornbaum (SR, Little Falls, Minn.),Â
Noah Veach (SR, Grand Haven, Mich.) andÂ
Andy Seidlitz (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS). Kornbaum and Veach each finished with game-high 25 point nights, while Seidlitz finished with 19 points. Kornbaum and Veach teammed up to finish 20-of-27 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line, while adding 8 rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots.
Eighteen different Auggies saw action in the contest and 12 factored into the scoring. Augsburg'sÂ
Parker Hines (JR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS) has been key in the Auggies recent six-game win streak and he continued to do so tonight posting a career-high 13 assists, leading Augsburg to a team season-high 29 assists on the night.
After leading 49-23 at halftime, Augsburg continued to pull away in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals 54-31 and leading by as many as 39 points, en route to the 37-point victory. The Auggies dominated play on the post, claiming a 64-26 advantage in points in the paint and were able to post a 28-5 advantage in points off turnovers.
St. Mary's was paced by Will Swiggum, who scored 18 points on 5-of-9 from the field, and Evan Pederson, who scored 14 points with a perfect 5-for-5 night from the free throw line.
Augsburg has now posted back-to-back games shooting over 62 percent from the field. The Auggies shot a season-best 63.9 percent (39-of-61) from the field -- their eighth straight game shooting 50 percent or better from the field. Augsburg is now 9-1 this season when shooting better than 50 percent from the field. The Auggies outrebounded the Cardinals by a 35-24 margin..
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Wednesday (1/22) at 7:30 p.m., traveling across town to take on MIAC foe St. Thomas for a key conference match-up at Schoenecker Arena, while the Cardinals travel to Arden Hills, Minn. to take on Bethel University.
