Auggies drop 4-2 decision to No. 10 UW-Superior

MINNEAPOLIS -- Claire Cripps (JR, Hutchinson, Minn.) and Rachel Hennessy (SR, Williston, N.D.) scored goals for Augsburg College, but the Auggies surrendered two third-period goals in falling 4-2 to the No. 10-ranked University of Wisconsin-Superior in a nonconference women's hockey game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg rallied to tie the game twice, once late in the first period and again early in the second period.
• Cripps scored the first goal of the season for the Auggies at the 18:49 mark of the first period, assisted by Halie Gudmonson (SO, Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Ashley Kloncz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS).
• After giving up a shorthanded goal late in the first period, the Auggies scored on the same power play 26 seconds into the second period, as Hennessy scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Danielle Heitkamp (SO, Bismarck, N.D./Grand Rapids (Minn.) HS) and Gudmonson.
• Erika Allen (JR, Roseville, Minn.), a transfer from Bethel playing her first game in goal as an Auggie, came up with 23 saves.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• UW-Superior outshot Augsburg by a 27-19 margin, including a 12-6 advantage in the third period. 
• Playing in her 76th career game, Hennessy now has 41 goals and 17 assists for 58 career points.
• Cripps now has 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points in 51 career games.
• Gudmonson, a transfer from Gustavus, now has seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points in 27 career games.


FOR THE FOES
• Haley Olmstead (SR, Fargo, N.D./North HS) opened the scoring for UW-Superior with a power-play goal at the 16:45 mark of the first period, assisted by Maggie Cragg (FY, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) and Emily Heid (FY, Elk River, Minn.). 
• Kiara De Kezel (SR, Deloraine, Manitoba) scored a shorthanded goal at the 19:12 mark of the first period, assisted by Dani Schultz (SR, Morris, Minn.).
• Heid scored from Cragg at the 9:03 mark of the third period, and Karen Larson (JR, Bluenort, Manitoba) capped the scoring with an empty-net goal from Hailey Adair (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park HS) and Pamela McLeod (SO, Gillam, Manitoba).
• Megan Leikkari (JR, Thunder Bay, Ontario) had 17 saves in goal for the Yellowjackets.
