Auggies drop 24-7 decision to Johnnies

MINNEAPOLIS -- Hunter Friesen (FY, Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) returned to the Augsburg College lineup and caught an 18-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, but it was the lone Auggie touchdown in a 24-7 loss to Saint John's University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football action on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After missing the last two weeks due to injury, Friesen returned to the Augsburg lineup and caught a team-leading five passes for 65 yards, including his 18-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Ayrton Scott (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) with 2:28 remaining in the first quarter.
• Scott completed 13-of-33 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown, while rushing a team-high 19 times for 84 yards.

• Jerise Washington (SR, Roseville, Minn./Mounds View HS) rushed eight times for 24 yards, while catching four passes for 28 yards.
• Linebacker Chris DeVet (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) claimed his second fake punt run of the season, scrambling for a 22-yard gain in the third quarter. He also recorded seven tackles (five solo) on defense, including two sacks and three tackles for-loss. He also had a fumble recovery.
• Defensively, Raymond Carter (FY, Jordan, Minn.) led the Auggies with 12 tackles (eight solo), while adding a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
• Felix Coleman (SR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) had nine tackles (six solo), along with a tackle for-loss and a forced fumble.
• Tyler Sis (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS), Alan Medina-Gonzalez (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Tartan HS), Bryson Vasey (SO, Sebeka, Minn./United North Central HS) and Isaac Hove (FY, Burnsville, Minn.) had six tackles each, with Sis recording a tackle for-loss and a forced fumble, Medina-Gonzalez recording a fumble recovery and Vasey also claiming a tackle for-loss.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Saint John's outgained Augsburg by a 288-to-258 margin. The Johnnies had 282 rushing yards and just six passing yards. Augsburg had 127 rushing yards and 131 passing yards.
• DeVet now has 5.5 sacks on the season and 13.0 in his career. 


FOR THE FOES
• Josh Bungum (JR, Paynesville, Minn.) rushed 16 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns, an 11-yard score in the final minute of the first half and a one-yard run with 1:52 remaining in the game.
• Sam Sura (JR, South St. Paul, Minn.) rushed 31 times for 170 yards to lead all players.
• Quarterback Nick Martin (JR, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) completed just 1-of-6 passes in the game, but it was a six-yard touchdown pass to Zack Sundly (SO, Harris, Minn./North Branch HS) in the fourth quarter.
• Alexi Johnson (SO, Shakopee, Minn.) kicked a 28-yard field goal to give the Johnnies a 10-7 lead in the third quarter.
• Carter Hanson (SO, Blue Earth, Minn.) led the Johnnies with seven tackles (two solo).
• Lucas Glomb (SO, Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) had a 59-yard interception return in the fourth quarter, setting up Sundly's touchdown three plays later.
