Auggies claim 74-71 win over BVU in season-opener

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Parker Hines (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS) scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Augsburg College men's basketball team to a season-opening victory over Buena Vista University in nonconference action on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After trailing by 10 with 12:07 to play in the second half, Augsburg used a key 12-2 run over a three-and-a-half-minute stretch to tie the game at 50-50.
• Neither team was able to increase their lead by more than five over the remainder of the game, but Augbsurg was able to connect on 5-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final 21 seconds to earn the hard-fought victory.
• Augsburg finished with three players in double figures. Hines led the way with 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor, while Brett Rasmussen (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) finished with 18 points and Collin Olmsheid (FY, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) added 11 points.
• Rasmussen and Brandon Little (JR, Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield HS) led the Auggies on the boards with seven apiece.

 
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The Auggies also opened 2013-14 season against Buena Vista, posting a thrilling 97-95 overtime victory at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
• Augsburg has won every season opener dating back to the 2007-08 season.
• After suffering a season-ending injury a year ago, Rasmussen led the Auggies in minutes played, recording 35 minutes of action.


FOR THE FOES
• BVU finished with three players in double figures, led by Nick Clark and Cole Darrow, who finished with 13 points apiece.
• Kennedy Drey led Buena Vista on the boards finishing with eight rebounds, while adding 11 points, four assists and three steals.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg returns to action Sunday (11/16) when it travels to Indianola, Iowa to take on Simpson College. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
