Augsburg falls 66-53 to Simpson

MINNEAPOLIS -- Brett Rasmussen (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) posted his first double-double of the season leading the Augsburg College men's basketball team in a 66-53 loss to Simpson College in nonconference action on Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg led for the first 10 minutes of the opening half, but Simpson grabbed its first lead at the 9:27 mark. The Storm outscored the Auggies 11-5 over the remainder of the frame and took at 28-21 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
• Augsburg was able to pull within four at the 13:31 mark but couldn't find a way to overtake Simpson as the Storm went on to earn the 66-53 victory over the Auggies.
• Rasmussen scored 22 points, while adding 11 rebounds, a block and a steal to lead the Auggies.
• Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg was Parker Hines (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy), who scored 11 points and posted a game-high seven assists, while adding five steals.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the field, and 25.0 percent (4-of-16) from 3-point range.
• Augsburg claimed a 40-24 advantage on the boards.


FOR THE FOES
• Simpson finished with three players in double figures, led by Charles Swain, who scored 17 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line.
• The Storm shot 46.3 percent (19-of-41) from the field and were able to convert on 21-of-29 from the free throw line.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• A year ago, Augsburg posted a 79-77 victory over Simpson in Minneapolis.
