Augsburg opens season with 61-32 win at North Central

MINNEAPOLIS -- Abbey Luger (SR, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) scored a game-high 16 points and added nine rebounds to lead Augsburg College to a season-opening 61-32 victory at North Central University in nonconference women's basketball action on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg jumped out to a 28-14 lead at the half and never looked back as they cruised on to the 61-32 victory.
• Luger scored 16 points, while adding nine rebounds, five steals and four assists.
• Also scoring in double figures for Augsburg was Bridget Bednar (FY, Pierz, Minn./Pierz HS), who scored a career-high 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds while adding three steals and three assists in her Auggie debut.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 37.5 percent (27-of-72) from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line. The Auggie defense forced 31 North Central turnovers and picked up 16 steals. Augsburg claimed a 40-37 advantage on the boards.
• The Auggie reserves outscored the Northwestern reserves 28-0.
• 12 different Auggies saw action in the contest with nine factoring into the scoring.


FOR THE FOES
• North Central was led by Jamie High, who scored nine points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
• The Rams shot 30.8 percent (12-of-39) from the field and were held to just 1-of-10 from 3-point range.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• This is the first time Augsburg has played North Central University since the Auggies opened the 2011-12 season with 70-46 victory over the Rams.
• Coach Bill McKee has won his season opener every season since he took over the reigns of the Auggie program in 2011-12.
