Auggies remain unbeaten in MIAC play with win over Mac

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College men's basketball team showed its depth in posting a 67-36 win over Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg used a 13-2 run approaching the midway point of first half to claim its first double-digit lead of the night. The Scots cut the Auggie lead to four, but Augsburg was able to outscore Macalester 17-4 over the final 10 minutes of the half. The Auggies extended their lead to as many as 32 points in the second half and cruised on to the 67-36 victory.
• Augsburg finished with two players in double figures. Collin Olmscheid (FY,  Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) came off the bench to lead the Auggies with 12 points on a 4-of-8 shooting night, while adding five rebounds and a pair of assists. Parker Hines (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS) also finished in double figures for Augsburg, posting 10 points, a game-high five assists and three blocked shots.
• Joey Sonnenfeld (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) led the Augsburg defense with three steals, while adding seven points and a pair of assists.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 46.2 percent (24-of-52) from the field. The Auggies outscored the Scots 20-12 in points in the paint and 34-7 in bench points.


FOR THE FOES
• Macalester was led offensively by Kareem Ismail, who finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Phil Levine-Caleb pulled down a game-high eight rebounds for the Scots.
• For the game, the Scots shot 26.8 percent (15-of-56) from the field and just 37.5 perecent (3-of-8) from the free throw line.

• Augsburg returns to action on Saturday when the Auggies host St. Thomas in a men's and women's doubleheader. The women will begin at 1 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 3 p.m.
