Luger scores career-high 27 in Auggie win over Northwestern

MINNEAPOLIS -- Abbey Luger (SR, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) scored a career-high 27 points, shooting 10-of-14 from the floor, to lead the Augsburg College women's basketball to a 78-45 victory over the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in nonconference action on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg used a strong three-point shooting performance in the first half (6-of-11) to build a 35-29 halftime lead. The Auggies put together a 21-0 run over a 7:44 span in the second half and were able to extend their lead to as many as 33 before cruising on to the 78-45 nonconference win. 
• Luger's career-high 27 points included a 6-of-8 performance from beyond the three-point arc. The six 3-pointers is currently tied for fourth-best for a single game in school history and the .750 three-point field goal percentage is third-best. Luger also led the Auggies on the boards, pulling down eight rebounds, while adding five assists, four steals and two blocked shots. 
• Jenna Orth (JR, Melrose, Minn./Melrose HS), also had a strong outing for the Auggies. Orth scored nine points on 4-of-7 shooting, while adding a game-high six assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals.
• Bridget Bednar (FY, Pierz, Minn./Pierz HS) came off the bench to spark the Auggies with nine points on a 4-of-6 shooting night and added a pair of rebounds.
• Twelve different Auggies saw action in the game and 11 factored into the scoring.
• Augsburg outscored Northwestern 24-10 in points off turnovers and 26-8 in bench scoring.
• The Auggies tied a season-low with just eight turnovers, while forcing 23 Eagle turnovers.

• For the game, Augsburg shot 40.6 percent (30-of-67) from the field and connected on a season-best 54.5 percent (13-of-31) from 3-point range.

FOR THE FOES
• The Eagles were offensively by Tiffany Stubbs, who finished with 10 points and added four rebounds. Regan Cooper led all players with a game-high 14 rebounds.
• For the game, Northwestern shot 34.4 percent (14-of-56) from the field and claimed a 46-35 advantage on the boards.

• Augsburg is idle until after the new year when the Auggies travel across town to take on St. Catherine University on Saturday, Jan. 3. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
