Hines leads Auggies past Carleton on Crohn's & Colitis night

MINNEAPOLIS. -- Parker Hines (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS) scored 14 points and added four assists to lead the Augsburg College men's basketball team to a 68-58 victory over Carleton College in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener for both squads at Si Melby Hall on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead and were able to extend their lead to 38-24 at the half on a 60.0 percent (15-of-25) shooting effort in the frame.
• Augsburg extended its lead to as many as 19 in the second half, but the Knights were able to cut the Auggie lead to single digits with 2:14 to play in the contest. Hines scored the final three points of the night for the Auggies to seal the 68-58 victory.
• Hines led the Auggies with 14 points and three rebounds, while posting four assists to bring his team-high to 36 on the season. 
• Also scoring in double figures for the Auggies was Brett Rasmussen (SO, Lakeville, Minn./North HS) and Collin Olmscheid (FY, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS). Rasmussen scored 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, while adding six rebounds and a pair of assists and steals. Olmscheid continues his strong rookie campaign, putting up 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while adding seven rebounds and an assist.
• Ryan Gilmer (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) led the Auggies on the boards, pulling down seven rebounds and adding a steal.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the field and claimed a 34-27 advantage on the boards. The Auggies committed a season-low six turnovers on the night.


FOR THE FOES
• Carleton also finished with three players in double figures, led offensively by Tianen Chen, who finished with a game-high 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor. 
• For the game, the Knights shot 47.1 percent (24-of-51) from the field and just 37.5 perecent (6-of-16) from the free throw line.


BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
• The Augsburg College men's basketball team held a fundraiser for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) organized by Augsburg senior guard Parker Hines (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS), who was diagnosed with Crohn's disease four years ago. Hines missed most of the 2011-12 season due to the disease, and had surgery to remove parts of his small intestine and colon late in 2013. The event raised more than $3,000 for the cause.

• Augsburg and Carleton both return to action on Saturday (12/6) at 3 p.m. The Auggies will travel to Winona, Minn. to take on St. Mary's University, while Carleton hosts Macalester College.
