Augsburg tops St. Mary's 65-53

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College men's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to top Saint Mary's University 65-53 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• After taking a 37-25 lead into the locker room at the intermission, but the Cardinals battled back and tied things up 44-44 with 7:42 remaining in the game. Saint Mary's took a 50-49 with just 3:20 to play but Augsburg was able to outscore the cardinals 16-5 to end the game and claim the 65-53 victory.
• Augsburg finished with four players in double figures. Ryan Gilmer (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) led the way with 12 points, Parker Hines (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS) and Brett Rasmussen (SO, Lakeville, Minn./North HS) finished with 11 points apiece and Richie Perea (SO, Coloado Springs, Colo./Wasson HS) scored 10 points.
• Hines led the Auggies on the boards, pulling down nine rebounds and adding four assists.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 38.0 percent (19-of-50) from the field and claimed a 40-38 advantage on the boards. 


FOR THE FOES
• Saint Mary's was led by Ronnie Ortiz, who finished with a game-high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor. 
• For the game, the Cardinals shot 37.0 percent (20-of-54) from the field and just 28.6 perecent (4-of-14) from 3-point range.


UP NEXT
• Augsburg has two contests remaining prior to the winter break. The Auggies will host Macalester College on Wednesday (12/10) at 7 p.m. and host St. Thomas in a men's and women's doubleheader on Saturday (12/13) at 3 p.m.
