Augsburg tops Saint Benedict 5-2 for series split

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Scoring four unanswered goals after being down 1-0, the Augsburg College women's hockey team claimed its fourth win in its last five starts with a 5-2 triumph over the College of Saint Benedict, gaining a split of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series on Saturday evening at the Municipal Athletic Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Megan Robertson (FY, Boissevain, Manitoba) claimed her first collegiate multi-goal game, scoring two goals for the Auggies. Kayla Fuechtmann (JR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) and Ashley Kloncz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) had a goal and assist each, and Rachel Hennessy (SR, Williston, N.D.) had two assists.
• Fuechtmann tied the game for the Auggies with a goal at the 12:00 mark of the first period, assisted by Danielle Heitkamp (SO, Bismarck, N.D./Grand Rapids (Minn.) HS).
• Robertson gave the Auggies a 2-1 lead with a goal at the 7:50 mark of the second period, assisted by Hennessy and Kloncz. Halie Gudmonson (SO, Albertville, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) scored 23 seconds later, assisted by Hennessy.
• Kloncz capped the four-goal outburst for the Auggies with a goal from Callen Naasz (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and Claire Cripps (JR, Hutchinson, Minn.) at the 12:34 mark of the second period.
• Robertson scored her second goal of the game with one second left in the second period, assisted by Fuechtmann.
• Saint Benedict outshot Augsburg by a 36-24 margin in the game.
• Making her first collegiate start in goal, Rebecca Sonnek (FY, Edina, Minn.) had 34 saves to pick up the win for the Auggies.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg has now won four of its last five games to stand at 4-4-2 overall, 4-1-1 in MIAC play.
• Augsburg's 4-1-1 start to league play is its best start to a conference season after six games since a 6-0-0 start in the 1999-2000 season. Augsburg also started 4-2-0 in league play in the 2004-05 campaign.
• Fuechtmann now has 37 points (21 goals, 16 assists) in 57 career games.
• Hennessy now has 64 career points (44 goals, 20 assists) in 85 career games. Her 44 goals are fourth-most in school history, while her 64 points are eighth-most.

• Stephanie Kirk had a goal and assist for the Blazers.
• Brigette Miller scored from Kirk 58 seconds into the first period, and Kirk scored from Elli Marvin at the 17:16 mark of the second period.
• Jenna Traut had 19 saves in goal for the Blazers.
