Dan Kornbaum (SR, Little Falls, Minn.) led the Augsburg College men's basketball team with 15 points in a key 81-53 victory over Hamline University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night at Si Melby Hall. With the win, the Auggies move to 15-7 overall (11-6 MIAC) and clinch a MIAC playoff berth for the third consecutive year and fifth time in the past six years.
With the win, Augsburg has now won seven in a row at home and is 10-1 this season at Si Melby Hall. The Auggies entered tonight's game ranked fourth in the nation in field goald percentage (52.1 percent).
Kornbaum finished 5-of-8 from the floor and added a team-high seven rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot.Â
Andy Seidlitz (SR, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) also recorded 15 points for the Auggies while adding four assists and a pair of steals.
Fifteen different Auggies saw action in the contest with 12 factoring into the scoring.Â

Ryan Gilmer (SO, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) also finished in double figures for the Auggies. Hines recorded 12 points and a game-high six assists and three steals, while Gilmer scored a career-high 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and a perfect 2-for-2 night from beyond the arc.
Hamline was led by Dior Ford, who scored 11 points and added six rebounds and a pair of assists.
The two teams battled for the first 10 minutes of the first half with neither team able to extend their lead to more than six. Augsburg used a key 14-2 run over a 3:34 span late in the frame to pull away from the Pipers. Augsburg was able to capitilize off Hamline's miscues, scoring 17 points off Piper turnovers. The Auggies took a 42-26 lead into the locker room at the break.
Augsburg continued to stretch its lead in the second half, leading by as many as 37 points before cruising to an 81-53 victory.
For the game, the Auggies finished 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field, while the Pipers connected on 42.3 percent (22-of-52) of their shots. Hamline claimed a 34-32 advantage on the boards but the big difference in the game came down to turnovers and 3-point shooting. Augsburg was able to connect on 11-of-25 from beyond the arc, while Hamline only converted 4-of-16. The Auggies forced 20 Hamline turnovers, while only committing eight and was able to outscore the Pipers 28-14 in points off turnovers.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Saturday (2/15) when the Auggies host Bethel University in a men's and women's doubleheader. Women's action is scheduled to tip-off at 1 p.m. when the men will begin senior day action at 3 p.m.
