Marie Fitzgerald (SO, Fort Atkinson, Wis.) came up with a game-winning blocked shot to seal the come-from behind victory for the Auggies.
With the win, Augsburg moves to 10-10 overall (7-10 MIAC) and records its second 10-win season under third year head coach
Bill McKee. With the loss Macalester falls to 3-18 overall (2-16 MIAC).
Tichy led all players with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the floor, while adding five rebounds, a pair of assists, a steal and a blocked shot. Fitzgerald also had a big afternoon for the Auggies, scoring a career-high 16 points, which included a perfect 4-for-4 afternoon from 3-point range.
Jessica Lillquist (SO, Sebeka, Minn./Sebeka HS), added a career-high six assists for Augsburg.
Macalester finished with three players in double figures led by Kathryn Medinger, who finished with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor.
Augsburg trailed Macalester 42-31 with just 10:22 left to play. The Auggies proceeded to go on a 13-4 run to pull the score within 46-44 with just under five minutes to play. The two teams traded baskets until Tichy's jumper put the Auggies up 55-54 with 14 seconds left in the action. Macalester had a chance to get the win at the buzzer but Fitzgerald came up with a huge block to seal the one-point victory for Augsburg.
For the game, Augsburg shot 37.0 percent (17-of-46) from the field, while the Scots connected on 38.5 percent (20-of-52) of their shots. Macalester claimed a 35-27 advantage on the boards but Augsburg was able to hit 7-of-18 from 3-point range, while the Scots only hit 4-of-14.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Monday (2/10) at 7:30 p.m., when the Auggies travel to St. Joseph, Minn. to take on the College of St. Benedict for the second time in a seven day span. Augsburg posted a 64-56 win over the Blazers on Wednesday and will look to sweep the season series.
