Augsburg women's hockey sets recruiting/transfer class

MINNEAPOLIS -- Three recruits and three transfer students, all with impressive hockey resumes, are expected to join the Augsburg College women's hockey team this fall, head coach Michelle McAteer has announced.

The new Auggies will join a squad that did not lose anyone to graduation after finishing 9-16-0 overall, 6-12-0 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play in 2013-14. The Auggies' nine wins were the most for the squad since 2004-05 and its six league wins were the most since 2005-06. Five Auggies earned All-MIAC or All-MIAC honorable-mention honors in 2013-14.

"I am excited about the new additions to our program," McAteer said. "Three out of six have played college hockey at respected institutions and will add talent and experience. Our three first-years come from outstanding programs and are eager to transition to the college level."

They were so kind and inviting and they and the coaches made me feel right at home."
McAteer on Phelps: "Afton is a committed student-athlete and offers skill, strength and athleticism and a great desire to grow as a player. She is humble and self-aware, and therefore has a promising upside and we look forward to seeing her develop."

McAteer on Roberston: "Megan hails from the Westman Wildcats, one of the top AAA programs out of Manitoba. Megan possesses keen hockey sense, likes to work hard in tough areas of the ice and is gifted playmaker who can also finish. She adds talent and grit and we excited about what she can offer."
