BOXSCORE 3 2014 GUSTAVUS VOLLEYBALL INVITATIONALST. PETER, Minn. -- The Augsburg College volleyball team finished 3-1 at the Gustavus Adolphus Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The No. 24-ranked Auggies lost their opening match to Minnesota-Morris, but responded with wins over Simpson (Iowa), Buena Vista (Iowa) and No. 20-ranked Coe (Iowa).
Augsburg is currently ranked No. 24 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III national rankings.
Friday, Sept. 12
MATCH 1 -- Minnesota-Morris def. Augsburg 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 27-25)BOXSCOREThe Augsburg College volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to UM-Morris Friday afternoon with their starting setter,
Courtney Lemke (SO, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS), out due to an injury. The Auggies were led by
Colleen Ourada (SR, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) with 11 kills, 14 digs, and
Ashley Peper (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) with 10 kills, four digs and two blocks (one solo).
Dezera Sieracki (SO, Wyoming, Minn./Centennial HS) and
Hannah Gibbemeyer (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin Derham Hall HS) had big shoes to fill in Lemke's absence, and they finished with 19 and 13 assists respectively. Gibbemeyer also contributed four services aces and five digs.
Mackensie Menke (SR, Prior Lake, Minn./Shakopee HS) served up two aces and chipped in 12 digs to help secure the Auggie defense, but it just wasn't enough as the Auggies lost three competitive sets.Â
UM-Morris was led by Emily Auch, who finished with 10 kills, and Brooke Decker, who recorded 20 assists. Kayley Siekmann added 12 assists and nine digs, while Abby Tietz recorded eight kills and 10 digs.Â
MATCH 2 -- Augsburg def. Simpson 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 25-14)BOXSCOREThe Auggies bounced back and beat Simpson in four sets behind another strong performance from
Colleen Ourada, who contributed 13 kills, 11 digs, four blocks (two solo) and two service aces.
Dezera Sieracki and
Hannah Gibbemeyer split setting duties for the second match in a row and tallied 18 and 17 assists respectively.
Augsburg was deadly in service, recording 16 aces, and Sieracki contributed five, while
Mackensie Menke finished with three and a team-high 12 digs.
DeeDee Maier (SO, Middleton, Wis.) recorded four aces and 10 digs for the Auggies, while
Ashley Peper finished with seven kills and a .417 attack percentage.Â
Nikki Brolin (SO, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) and
Jessica Lillquist (JR, Sebeka, Minn.) each recorded six kills, while
Ellen Sachs (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) finished with five. Lillquist added four blocks as well.Â
Simpson was led by Olivia Sulentic, who recorded a match-best 14 kills and 15 digs, while setter Katie Kieffer dished out 43 assists.Â
Saturday, Sept. 13
MATCH 3 -- Augsburg def. Buena Vista 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-21)BOXSCOREThe Auggies recorded 10 team blocks and 68 digs in a stellar defensive performance during their four-set victory over Buena Vista Saturday morning. Augsburg was sharp offensively in the three sets it won as well, hitting at an average clip of .329 in sets two, three, and four, with a match-best .444 attack percentage in set four to seal the win.Â
Ashley Peper finished with a match-high 16 kills to go along with her eight digs and four blocks (two solo). Peper only had two errors in 33 attacking attempts and finished with a .424 attack percentage. Augsburg's other offensive staple,
Colleen Ourada, contributed 13 kills and eight digs, while
Jaelyn Arndt (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) recorded eight kills and two blocks (one solo).Â
Mackensie Menke anchored the Auggie backline once again, picking up 25 digs, while the only other Auggie with a double-digit dig total was
Dezera Sieracki, who also dished out 27 assists.
Hannah Gibbemeyer finished with 16 assists, six digs, and three service aces.
Buena Vista was led by Maddie Bardole and Jade Schaap, who each recorded 15 kills. Bardole and Schaap also contributed double-digit dig totals with 10 and 13 respectively. Laura Barry finished with a match-best 37 assists to go along with her nine digs and two kills.Â
MATCH 4 -- Augsburg def. Coe 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-20)
BOXSCOREAugsburg finished with a strong effort in topping Coe, ranked No. 20 in the latest AVCA Division III national rankings. The Auggies hit .230 as a team and claimed eight team blocks in the match, limiting Coe to a .099 attack percentage.
Ashley Peper paced the Auggies with a kill-dig double-double, recording 17 kills on a .261 clip, while also recoring 14 digs and two blocks (one solo).Â
Colleen Ourada also had a double-double, with 14 kills and 13 digs, to go along with four blocks (two solo).
Jessica Lillquist had five kills,
Taylor Linn (FY, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) had four kills and four blocks (one solo).
Courtney Lemke recorded 38 assists for the Auggies.Â
Mackensie Menke had another double-digit effort in the libero position with 23 digs.
Brianna Smith had eight kills for Coe, while Rachel Schaefer had seven kills and 17 digs, and Meghan McClimon had seven kills. Mackenzie Harbaugh had 22 assists and 10 digs, and Anna Wittenburg had 17 digs.
