MINNEAPOLIS -- Leading from the first minute of the game to the finish, the Augsburg College men's soccer team improved to 2-0-0 in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 2-0 win over Bethel University on Tuesday night at Edor Nelson Field.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 2, Bethel 0
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 3-5-1 overall (2-0-0 MIAC), Bethel 4-5-0 overall (0-2-0 MIAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg struck early, as Ben Henry (SO, Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln HS) scored on a one-timer in front of the goal, following a feed from the right side by Jason Scheeler (FY, Blaine, Minn.), just 53 seconds into the game.
• Tanner McCarthy (SR, Windsor Heights, Iowa/Dowling Catholic HS) gave the Auggies a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal at the 52:49 mark, sending a blast from the top of the penalty box into the net following a scramble in front.

• Augsburg outshot Bethel by a 22-6 margin -- a 13-6 advantage in the first half and a 9-0 advantage in the second half. The Auggies also had six corner kicks to the Royals' one in the game. Scott Clinton (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) had five shots in the game, while Henry and Grant Griffin (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had four shots each.
• Nick Lenertz (SO, Newport, Minn./Park HS) had three saves in goal for Augsburg, picking up his second shutout of the season.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Henry scored his team-leading third goal of the season and ninth in his 26-game college career.
• McCarthy claimed his second goal of the season and fifth of his 50-game Auggie career.
• Tuesday's game featured a ceremony honoring Augsburg's 1974 MIAC men's soccer championship team, along with former head coach Rolf Eriksen, who coached the Auggies from 1971 to 1973 and from 1976 to 1981, coaching the Auggies to MIAC titles in 1973 and 1980. Augsburg dedicated its recently renovated men's soccer locker room in Si Melby Hall in Eriksen's honor on Tuesday. (CLICK HERE FOR PHOTO GALLERY FROM EVENT)

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG HEAD COACH GREG HOLKER
• "It was great to jump on them in the first minute -- a great service from Scheeler, who has been consistently one of our dangerous players -- and then a fantastic strike from Ben."
• "Bobby Kohl was on top of it tonight. He slammed the door on every ball played into the back and looked sharp throughout the match."
• "Tanner's goal was the result of good work. We had them pinned in and finally a ball bounced into a dangerous place for Tanner to volley home. Unfortunately, we lost him with about 20 minutes to go to injury."
• "In the end, it could have been a lot more than 2-0 tonight -- we squandered some chances and their goalkeeper made some big saves. We will have to improve in those moments against Macalester because they just don't give up many chances at all. They have been a difficult opponent for everyone to date and their record reflects that.
"
