Menke records 1,000th dig in Auggie loss

ST. JOSEPH, Minn.-- In a matchup of two nationally ranked Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals, the Saint Benedict Blazers took advantage of a home crowd and early momentum to sweep the Auggies on Wednesday evening. Augsburg senior defensive specialist Mackensie Menke (SR, Prior Lake, Minn./Shakopee HS) surpassed 1,000 career digs in the match. Menke needed 17 digs in the match to reach the milestone and finished with 19.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies scored the first two points of the first set before the Blazers rattled off 11 straight points and went on to win set one 25-10. Saint Benedict recorded a match-best .370 hitting percentage in the first set compared to Augsburg's .073. The Blazers carried that momentum into the next two sets and scored the sweep. 
• The Auggies finished with 12 attacking errors compared to the Blazers 20, and also recorded seven team blocks to Saint Benedict's three. The Blazers backline was very solid though recording 104 digs in the match compared to Augsburg's 80. 
Colleen Ourada (SR, Omaha, Neb./Mercy HS) paced the Auggies with 10 kills and 17 digs, as she was the lone Auggie to record a double-digit kill total. Ashley Peper (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) finished with seven kills and 18 digs, while Jessica Lillquist tallied eight kills and four blocks (two solo).  

Courtney Lemke (SO, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) finished with 24 assists and 10 digs in the match, while Ellen Sachs (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) chipped in five kills and nine digs. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
Mackensie Menke became the 12th player in Augsburg history to surpass 1,000 digs in a career, and is close to cracking the top-10 all-time with 1,002 digs. Menke is currently eighth in the conference in total digs with 249. 
• Augsburg split with Saint Benedict last year on its way to a conference championship season, recording a three-set sweep on Sept. 18, and losing at home in the MIAC playoffs in four sets. 

Ashley Peper is the MIAC individual leader with 3.64 kills-per-set, while Colleen Ourada sits third with 3.36. 

FOR THE FOES
• Laura Schmitt led all players with 14 kills, and added 20 digs, while Lexi Rinde finished with 13 kills. Bailey Rykken recorded 11 kills in the match. 
• The conference assist leader, Taya Kockelman dished out 44 assists and recorded 11 digs, while Victoria Nass finished with a match-best 31 digs.
