Auggies drop 55-31 Homecoming decision to Gusties

MINNEAPOLIS -- The two teams combined for 1,243 yards of total offense and 86 points, with Gustavus Adolphus College claiming a 55-31 victory over host Augsburg College in the Auggies' Homecoming game in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football action on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Gustavus quarterback Mitch Hendricks (JR, Laporte, Minn./Bemidji HS) set his second school single-game passing record in as many weeks, completing 33-of-39 passes for 504 yards and a school-record seven touchdowns, while being intercepted once. Hendricks completed his first 16 passes in a row to start the game, and his 33 competions tied a Gustavus single-game school record.
• Meanwhile, his quarterback counterpart, Augsburg's Ayrton Scott (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS), completed 27-of-41 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing 20 times for 94 yards and a 42-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
• The teams combined for 1,243 yards of total offense in the game -- Gustavus with 597 yards (504 passing, 93 rushing) and Augsburg with 546 yards (346 passing, 200 rushing).
• Joey Sonnenfeld (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) caught eight passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns -- a 12-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter and a career-long 74-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter to cut the Gustie lead to 41-31.
• Jerise Washington (SR, Roseville, Minn./Mounds View HS) rushed 18 times for 99 yards, while catching five passes for 71 yards for the Auggies.
• Scott Bossard (JR, North Branch, Minn.) caught three passes for 39 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter. Hunter Friesen (FY, Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS) caught five passes for 39 yards.

• Defensively, Alan Medina-Gonzalez (JR, Woodbury, Minn./Tartan HS) led the Auggies with 11 tackles (seven solo), including a tackle for-loss. Felix Coleman (SR, Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) had nine tackles (six solo), and Isiah Malone (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) and Bryce Nelson (JR, New Brighton, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS) had seven takles each.
• Linebacker Chris DeVet (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) recorded a sack, to go along with four tackles and a forced fumble.

• Brandyn Oliver (SO, Lake City, Minn.) connected on a 33-yard field goal late in the second quarter.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Sonnenfeld's 140 receiving yards marked his seventh 100-yard-plus receiving game in his two seasons as an Auggie.
• Already Augsburg's all-time career rushing leader at 2,469 career rushing yards, Scott's 415 career rushes are now third-most in school history; the school record is 497 by Wayne Graves (1970-73). His 23 rushing touchdowns are also most in school history, with Washington in second place with 19 rushing touchdowns.

• Scott also eclipsed the 6,000-yard mark for career passing yardage; his 6,079 career passing yards are now fourth-most in school history. He has completed 460-of-764 passing with 61 touchdowns against 32 interceptions.

FOR THE FOES
• Matt Boyce (JR, Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka HS) caught 12 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns -- receptions of 20, 49 and two yards for scores. Gabriel Boyce (JR, Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka HS) caught 11 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns -- receptions of 17 and 49 yards for scores.
• DaiVon Poole (FY, San Angelo, Texas/Wiesbaden HS) rushed 21 times for 101 yards and scored the first points of the game for the Gusties on a three-yard scoring run. He also caught four passes for 44 yards.
• Harrison Feldkamp (JR, Sibley, Iowa/Sibley-Ocheyedan HS) and Drew Fredericksen (FY, Forsyth, Ill/Maroa-Forysth HS) also caught touchdown passes for the Gusties.
• Anthony Boyuce (SR, Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka HS) led the Gusties with 11 tackles (five solo) and had an interception), while Jake Forcier (SR, Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) and Parker Gessner (JR, Anoka, Minn./St. Francis HS) also had interceptions.
• Zach Tvedten (SR, Elmore, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS) had two sacks for the Gusties, with Andrew Lonneman (SR, Adrian, Minn.) recording a sack and Matt Keller (SR, Eagan, Minn.) and Mitch Snare (SR, Rosemount, Minn.) combining for another.
