Cold shooting plagues Auggies against Pipers

MINNEAPOLIS -- Despite three players finishing in double figures, the Augsburg College men's basketball team was plagued by cold shooting and dropped a 69-60 contest to Hamline University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game on Wednesday evening at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg was led offensively by Brett Rasmussen (SO, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS), who finished with a team-high 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor. Rasmussen added five rebounds and a steal.
• Joe Zangel (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn.) and Collin Olmscheid (FY, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) also had solid outings for the Auggies. Zangel finished with 11 points and a season-high seven rebounds, while Olmscheid posted his fourth consecutive double-digit campaign, finishing with 10 points, eight rebounds and a pair of assists.
• The game was a tightly contested affair with never more than a nine point spread.
• Augsburg tied the game with a Zangel layup at the 3:26 mark, but wasn't able to overcome the Pipers as Hamline shot 12-of-14 from the free throw line in the final two and a half minutes to seal the victory.

• The teams finished with an identitical 40 rebounds apeice.
• Augsburg had its second lowest shooting performance of the season, connecting on just 33.9 percent (21-of-62) from the field, while Hamline shot 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the field.


FOR THE FOES
• Hamline finished with five players in double figures led by Zach Smith, who finished with a game-high 17 points.
• Bennett Cooper led the Pipers with eight rebounds.

• Augsburg hosts Saint Mary's University in a men's and women's double header on Saturday (1/24). Women tip off at 1 p.m., while the men start at 3 p.m.
