Concordia scores 3-2 win over Auggies

MINNEAPOLIS -- Nate Flynn (FY, Hastings, Minn.) and Rory Vesel (SO, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) scored goals for Augsburg College, but the Auggies' rally fell short in a 3-2 loss to Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Saturday afternoon at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Trailing 2-0 after one period, Flynn put the Auggies on the scoreboard with his fourth goal of the season 1:09 into the second period, assisted by Corbin Chapman (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) and Evan Hesse (FY, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS). 
• Vesel cut the Cobber lead to 3-2 with his fourth goal of the season at the 5:50 mark of the third period, assisted by Chapman.
• Augsburg outshot Concordia by a 35-16 margin in the game, and had three shots hit the goalposts, including two in the third period. 
• Augsburg goalie Fredrik Melander (SO, Uppsala, Sweden/Trinity-Pawling Prep (N.Y.) HS) had 13 saves.
• Flynn had six shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Vesel had four shots. Lucas Hendrickson (JR, Savage, Minn./Burnsville, Minn.), Zach Dick (SR, Grand Rapids, Minn.), Drew Anderson (FY, Rochester, Minn./Century HS) and Chapman had three shots each.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Chapman's 10 assists this season currently stands tied for eighth among MIAC players in overall statistics. 
• Hesse's nine assists are tied for 10th among MIAC players in overall statistics.

FOR THE FOES
• Jordie Bancroft and Ben Gislason scored for the Cobbers in the first period -- Bancroft on a 4-on-3 power-play goal from Andrew Deters and Garrett Hendrickson at the 10:12 mark, and Gislason at the 14:09 mark from Bancroft.
• Jeremy Johnson scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 16:12 mark of the second period, assisted by Tucker Coborn.
• Alex Reichle had 33 saves in goal for Concordia.
