Augsburg falls to SMU 51-45

MINNEAPOLIS -- Abbey Luger (SR, Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul HS) scored 14 points to lead Augsburg College in a 51-45 loss to Saint Mary's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The contest was a close one from start to finish with neither team able to extend its lead to more than eight points. Augsburg spent the majority of the afternoon within striking distance but could never quite overcome the Cardinals.
• Luger led the Auggies offensively with 14 points, while adding five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Marie Fitzgerald (JR, Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson HS) came off the bench to lead the Auggies on the boards, pulling down nine rebounds, while adding two points and an assist.
Jenna Orth (JR, Melrose, Minn.) anchored the Auggie defense, claiming a game-high five steals, while adding eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.

• Augsburg shot 33.3 percent (18-of-54) from the field, while Saint Mary's connected on 42.6 percent (20-of-47) of their shot attempts.
• Saint Mary's claimed a 34-30 advantage on the boards.
• Augsburg was only able to convert on 1-of-12 from 3-point range, while SMU hit 6-of-18 from beyond the arc. 


FOR THE FOES
• Molly O'Toole and Emma Schaefer led the Cardinals with 10 points apiece.
