Flynn's hat trick leads Auggies to 4-3 win

MINNEAPOLIS -- Nate Flynn (FY, Hastings, Minn.) claimed his first collegiate hat trick, scoring Augsburg College's last three goals in a 4-3 triumph over the University of St. Thomas in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's hockey game on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Flynn collected his hat trick with a goal late in the second period to tie the game at 2-2, a goal 35 seconds into the third period to give the Auggies a 3-2 lead, and a goal at the 11:24 mark of the third period to give the Auggies their final margin of victory.
• Flynn's first goal, at the 17:35 mark of the second period, was assisted by Mack Ohnsted (JR, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS) and Brett Bukowski (FY, Superior, Wis.).
• Flynn's two goals in the third period were both assisted by Drew Anderson (FY, Rochester, Minn./Century HS). 
Zach Dick (SR, Grand Rapids, Minn.) tied the game at 1-1 with a goal halfway through the first period, assisted by Dylan Meier (SO, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) and Drew Allen (JR, Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley HS).
• Augsburg outshot St. Thomas by a 21-20 margin. Auggie goalie John Bretzman (SR, Mendota Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran HS) had 17 saves. 
• Flynn had five shots on-goal for Augsburg, while Corbin Chapman (SO, Burnsville, Minn.) had three shots.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg snapped a seven-game losing streak to St. Thomas. Augsburg's last win over the Tommies was a 4-3 home win on Feb. 17, 2012.
• Augsburg snapped St. Thomas' 10-game (9-0-1) unbeaten streak with the victory. The Tommies entered the game ranked No. 14 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online (www.uscho.com) Division III national poll.
• Flynn now has seven goals on the season, second-most on the team and 14th among MIAC players in overall statistics.
• Ohnsted and Chapman both have 10 assists on the year, both tied for 10th-most among MIAC players in overall statistics. Ohnsted is tied for fifth among MIAC players in overall points with 20 (10 goals, 10 assists).


FOR THE FOES
• Thomas Williams opened the scoring for the Tommies with a goal 3:18 into the game, assisted by Alex Altenbernd.
• Joakim Broberg scored a power-play goal for the Tommies at the 18:52 mark of the first period, assisted by Johnny Roisum and Altenbernd.
• Michael Krieg scored on a 5-on-3 power play at the 2:28 mark of the third period, assisted by Jordan Locvick and Michael Dockry.
• Drew Fielding had 17 saves in goal for St. Thomas.
