Augsburg picks up key MIAC win over Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. -- Collin Olmscheid (FY, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) led the Augsburg College men's basketball team to an important 66-57 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies led from start to finish in what is certainly an imporant win in conference play. Despite never allowing the Gusties a lead in the game, Augsburg held just a 52-50 lead with 4:51 to play in the game. The Auggies then used a 10-2 run to take a 63-52 advantage and went 3-of-4 from the free throw line in the final 35 seconds to seal the victory.
• Olmscheid led all players with a game-high 18 points on a 7-of-9 shooting night. 
• Also finishing in double figures for the Auggies was Brandon Little(JR, Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield HS), who finished with 12 points, connecting on 4-of-5 from the field.
• Ryan Gilmer (JR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) led the Auggies on the boards, tying his season-high with nine rebounds, while adding nine points.
• Parker Hines (SR, Lakeville, Minn./Minnehaha Academy HS) recorded a game-high eight assists, while adding nine points, four rebounds and three steals.
• For the game, Augsburg shot 48.9 percent (22-of-45) from the field and an impressive 50.0 percent (8-of-16) from three-point range.


FOR THE FOES
• Gustavus was led offensively by Isaac Tapp and Brody Ziegler, who finished with 14 and 10 points respectively.
• For the game, the Gusties shot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) from the field but just 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from three-point range.


UP NEXT
• Augsburg and Gustavus both return to action on Saturday (1/10) -- the Auggies host Bethel University in a men's and women's double-header, while Gustavus hosts Concordia College. Women's action begins at 1 p.m., while the men tip-off at 3 p.m.
