Auggies drop Homecoming contest to No. 9 St. Thomas

MINNEAPOLIS -- Joey Sonnenfeld (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) scored the lone touchdown of the game for Augsburg College early in the fourth quarter, but the No. 9-ranked University of St. Thomas dominated throughout in a 55-6 win over the host Auggies in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football game on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Thomas built a 41-0 lead after three quarters before Augsburg got on the scoreboard, a 46-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ayrton Scott (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) to Sonnenfeld. 
• St. Thomas outgained Augsburg by a 523-336 margin in the game, with the Tommies claiming 287 passing yards and 236 rushing yards, compared to 194 passing yards and 142 rushing yards for the Auggies.
• Sonnenfeld caught seven passes for 146 yards -- his fourth straight 100-plus-yard receiving game.
• Scott completed 11-of-28 passes for 194 yards, but was intercepted twice, with one returned for a two-yard touchdown. He also rushed 16 times for 51 yards.
Tyrell Martin (SR, West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) rushed 14 times for 64 yards.

• Defensively, Raymond Carter (SO, Jordan, Minn.) had a career-best 14 tackles (six solo), incliuding a tackle for-loss. Matt Bowlin (JR, Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had his second straight double-digit tackle day of his collegiate career, recording 10 tackles (three solo), along with an interception. 
Bobby Collins (JR, Lompoc, Calif.) and Isiah Malone (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) also had interceptions for the Auggies.


FOR THE FOES
• Running back Jordan Roberts gained 111 yards on 14 carries with a second-quarter touchdown for the Tommies. Jack Kaiser gained 95 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns.
• Quarterback John Gould completed 13-of-20 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns against two interceptions. Alex Fenske completed 6-of-8 passes for 86 yards and a touchdown against an interception.
• Nick Waldvogel caught seven passes for 86 yards, and Charlie Dowdle, Ryan Bradley and Wolfgang Dvorak each caught touchdown passes.
• Jesse Addo had seven tackles (four solo), including a quarterback sack, to lead the Tommie defense.
• St. Thomas is ranked No. 9 in the latest D3football.com Division III national poll and No. 8 in the American Football Coaches Association Division III national poll.
