Auggies claim 2-1 OT win over Cobbers

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kealie Espinda Banick (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) claimed her first collegiate goal and won the game for Augsburg College in the process in overtime, as the Auggies scored a 2-1 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer win over Concordia College-Moorhead on Tuesday at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Espinda Banick scored her first college goal at the 4:25 mark of the first overtime. After she threw the ball in, she took a return pass from Carter Denison (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and shot the ball in the net from 20 yards out.
• Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Augsburg tied the game at 1-1 2:45 into the second half, as Marta Anderson (JR, Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) scored on a loose ball from Marie Fitzgerald (SR, Fort Atkinson, Wis.), who had fallen to the ground inside the six-yard box.
• Augsburg claimed a 14-7 advantage in shots in the game. Denison had five shots, while Anderson had three.

Marissa Guillou (SO, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) had two saves in goal for the Auggies.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The victory broke a two-game losing streak for the Auggies, keeping Augsburg within striking distance of repeating as MIAC regular-season titlists, with four conference games remaining. Augsburg sits in a tie for second place with Gustavus, as both have 15 conference points. St. Thomas holds the conference lead with 16 points. The top six teams qualify for the MIAC postseason playoffs. 

FOR THE FOES
• Alexandra Jones opened the scoring with a goal from Emily Wendorff at the 6:00 mark.
• Elizabeth Bitzan had three saves in goal for the Cobbers.
• Jones and Paige McCullough had two shots each for Concordia.
