Auggies suffer four-set loss at Saint Mary's

WINONA, Minn. -- The Augsburg College volleyball team fell to 15-6 overall (4-4 MIAC) with a heartbreaking four-set loss to Saint Mary's University in a critical Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Saint Mary's Gym on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies won the first set, recorded a better hitting percentage (.188) in the match than the Cardinals (.175), and out-blocked them eight to two, but could not take advantage of a late fourth-set lead as Saint Mary's rallied for the match victory.  
• Augsburg was led by Ashley Peper (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) who finished with a match-high 19 kills, while hitting at a .311 clip. Peper also recorded 19 digs, four blocks and one service ace. 
• Taylor Linn (SO, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Jordan Weeding (SO, Greenfield, Minn./Rockford HS) also finished with double-digit kill totals as Linn recorded 12 and Weeding 10. Weeding added three blocks while Linn finished with two blocks and six digs. 
• Courtney Lemke (JR, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) and Morgan Malley (FY, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) split the setting duties for the Auggies, finishing with 24 and 17 assists respectively. Malley also recorded seven digs and an ace, while Lemke finished with two kills and two digs. 
• Macey Terhell (FY, Osceola, Wis.), recorded 16 digs, three assists and two service aces. 
 
FOR THE FOES
• Macki Fadness and Molly Urban led the Cardinals with 11 and 10 kills in the match respectively. 
• Brittney Hanson finished with 24 assists, while Tayler MacVey recorded 22.
 
UP NEXT
• Augsburg will host Hamline at 7 p.m. next Wednesday (10/21).
• Saint Mary's travels to Arden Hills, Minn. for a match against Bethel at 7 p.m. on Friday (10/23).
