Auggies earn two wins on first day of UMass-Boston Invite

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Augsburg College volleyball team beat Roger Williams University and the University of Massachusetts-Boston in seven sets, earning the sweep of Roger Williams in the early match before a four-set victory of host UMass-Boston in nonconference action on Friday. 

THE BASICS

Augsburg def. Roger Williams 3-0 (25-18, 25-7, 25-7)

RECORDS: Augsburg 17-6 overall, Roger Williams 14-9 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ROGER WILLIAMS
• Augsburg was able to record the sweep of Roger Williams, which was recently ranked No. 12 in the New England region, according to the first NCAA Division III women's volleyball regional rankings. The Hawks are 6-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference play. 
• The Auggies recorded a blistering .438 hitting percentage with 41 kills and only nine errors on 73 attempts, compared to the Hawks hitting percentage of .041. 
• Augsburg also continued its serving dominance with 12 aces, compared to four for Roger Williams. 
• 
Ashley Peper (SR, Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) led the Auggie offense with 12 kills and a .550 attack percentage. Peper also finished with 10 digs, four assists and one solo block. 
• Jordan Weeding (SO, Greenfield, Minn./Rockford HS) was also on fire with seven kills and zero errors on 10 attempts, for an attack percentage of .700.
• Jaelyn Arndt (JR, Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) and Taylor Linn (SO, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) finished with six kills apiece, while Linn also tallied five service aces. 
• Setter Courtney Lemke (JR, Brownton, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) led all players with 26 assists, and libero Macey Terhell (FY, Osceola, Wis.) finished with a match-high 11 digs.  

FOR THE FOES (ROGER WILLIAMS)
• Meghan Smith recorded eight kills and four digs. 
• Nicole Weber finished with 11 assists and six digs for the Hawks.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST UMASS-BOSTON
• The Auggies and the Beacons battled back and forth, with a number of lead changes in each set, but the Auggies prevailed in four sets, thanks to a key 25-23 third-set victory.   
• Ashley Peper led the Auggie offense again with 13 kills, while Jaelyn Arndt finished with 10. 
• Macey Terhell dominated defensively for the Auggies, recording a match-high 31 digs.
Courtney Lemke and Morgan Malley (FY, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) split setting duties, combining for 43 assists. Lemke with 25 and 10 digs, and Malley with 18 and five digs. 
Taylor Linn recorded nine kills and five digs, while Jessica Lillquist (SR, Sebeka, Minn.) recorded seven kills, and Jordan Weeding finished with three blocks (one solo) and three kills.
• DeeDee Maier (JR, Middleton, Wis.) and Peper chipped in on defense with 10 and seven digs respectively. 

FOR THE FOES (UMASS-BOSTON)
• Eileen Shi led all players with 18 kills and nine errors with an attack percentage of .200, Colleen Koen finished with 10 kills.
• Four players finished with double digit digs led by Elizabeth Glavan (21), Macayla Chianco (14), Emily Steinberg (12), Pepper Baker (11). Baker also recorded a match-high 42 assists.

• Augsburg returns to action Saturday (10/24) for day two of the UMass-Boston Invite with matchups against Clark University at 10 a.m. and Bowdoin College at 12 p.m.
