Auggies generate 722 yards of offense in 57-35 win

MINNEAPOLIS -- In a game that produced 1,245 yards of total offense, Augsburg College's 722 yards and eight touchdowns were enough to win, as the Auggies claimed a 57-35 win over visting St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football contest on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Quarterback Ayrton Scott (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) had one of his top offensive performances of his career with 516 yards of total offense, completing 26-of-32 passes for 313 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing 22 times for 203 yards and a second-quarter touchdown -- his second 200-yard rushing game of his career.
• Joey Sonnenfeld (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) caught nine passes for 126 yards and three touchdowns -- a seven-yarder and nine-yarder in the first quarter, and a three-yarder late in the third quarter. The game marked his sixth straight 100-plus-yard receiving effort this season and 18th of his 27-game Augsburg career.
• Running back Tyrell Martin (SR, West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) 12 times for 106 yards and three touchdowns, his fourth 100-yard-plus rushing game of the season. He scored on a two-yard run in the first quarter and on rushes of one and 11 yards in the third quarter. Martin also caught seven passes for 78 yards, producing 208 all-purpose yards in the game.
• Cyrus Elliott (SR, Baldwin, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville HS) caught his first collegiate touchdown pass, a 12-yarder from Scott in the first quarter.
• Tyler Hanson (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) connected on a 22-yard field goal just before halftime.
• Tiras Bolton (SO, Omaha, Neb./Omaha Westside HS) rushed 10 times for 78 yards.
• Augsburg scored on nine of its 13 drives in the game, including its first four drives in the first quarter. The teams exchanged scores on 10 of their combined 16 drives in the first half, as Augsburg took a 36-23 lead into the locker room. Five of the 10 second-half drives ended up in scores for both teams.

• Defensively, Raymond Carter (SO, Jordan, Minn.) led the Auggies with nine tackles (two solo), including the lone sack of the game. Bobby Collins (JR, Lompoc, Calif.) had six tackles (five solo), and Clayton Byrd (SO, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) and Barclay Bates (FY, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) had five tackles each.
• Steven O'Brien (FY, Rochester, Minn./Duluth HS) forced a St. Olaf fumble, which Tyler Sis (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) recovered to squelch an Ole drive at the Augsburg 5-yard line in the second quarter.


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With his 516 yards on Saturday, Scott now has 13,388 career yards of total offense, in sixth place in the category in NCAA Division III history. The Division III record is 14,568 yards, set by Kevin Burke of Mount Union (Ohio) from 2011-14. Scot's 361.8 total offense yards per-game average is second in Division III history, behind the 364.6 yards per-game average set by Brett Elliott of Linfield (Ore.) from 2004-05.
• Scott holds school career records for passing yardage (9,576) and rushing yardage (3,812), along with rushing attempts (647), rushing touchdowns (34) and passing touchdowns (92). He stands second in pass completions (691) and pass attempts (1,156).
• Scott's 203-yard rushing day was the second time he has topped the 200-yard mark in a game in his career and 17th time he has rushed for 100 yards or more.
• In three seasons at Augsburg, Sonnenfeld now has 186 catches for 3,202 yards, moving into third place in school history in career receiving yardage and a tie for fifth place in career receptions. His 36 receiving touchdowns as an Auggie are third-best in school history.


FOR THE FOES
• Nate Penz completed 21-of-33 passes for 402 yards and three touchdowns for St. Olaf.
• J.J. Strnad caught three passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns -- a 61-yarder in the first quater and a 35-yarder in the second quarter. He also rushed 12 times for 47 yards and a one-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
• Connor Yahn caught four passes for 169 yards, including a 74-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter.
• Connor McCormick rushed five times for 40 yards, including a one-yard touchdown late in the game.
• Colten Yahn had 11 tackles (four solo) to lead the Oles, while Tommy Fleetham, Kyle Keenan, Lucas Dahl and Ethan Lunning had nine tackles each.
