Auggies fall 42-14 at Saint John's

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. -- Augsburg College scored the first and last points of the game, but inbetween, No. 12-ranked Saint John's University scored 42 unanswered points, claiming a 42-14 win in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football contest on Saturday afternoon at Clemens Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg used a 14-play, 75-yard drive, covering 6:36, to score its first touchdown, a two-yard pass from quarterback Ayrton Scott (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) to receiver Joey Sonnenfeld (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS).
• The Auggies' final drive also covered 75 yards, a 12-play drive taking up 6:35, which culminated in a 10-yard touchdown run by Tiras Bolton (SO, Omaha, Neb./Omaha Westside HS).
• Saint John's outgained Augsburg by a 467-368 margin. Augsburg had 186 rushing yards and 182 passing yards, while Saint John's had 288 rushing yards and 179 passing yards. Neither team had a turnover in the game.
• Scott accounted for 303 yards of total offense, completing 23-of-38 passes for 182 yards, while rushing 24 times for 121 yards -- his 18th 100-yard rushing game of his career.
• Sonnenfeld caught 13 passes for 103 yards --  his seventh straight 100-plus-yard receiving effort this season and 19th of his 28-game Augsburg career.

• Running back Tyrell Martin (SR, West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) rushed 12 times for 52 yards, while catching six passes for 29 yards.
• Defensively, Matt Bowlin (JR, Eagan, Minn./Holy Angels HS) led Augsburg with eight tackles (four solo), including a tackle for-loss. Alan Medina-Gonzalez (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Tartan HS) and Raymond Carter (SO, Jordan, Minn.) had seven tackles each.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With his 303 yards on Saturday, Scott now has 13,691 career yards of total offense, in fifth place in the category in NCAA Division III history. The Division III record is 14,568 yards, set by Kevin Burke of Mount Union (Ohio) from 2011-14. Scott's 360.3 total offense yards per-game average is second in Division III history, behind the 364.6 yards per-game average set by Brett Elliott of Linfield (Ore.) from 2004-05.
• Scott holds school career records for passing yardage (9,756) and rushing yardage (3,933), along with rushing attempts (671), rushing touchdowns (34) and passing touchdowns (94). He stands second in pass completions (714) and pass attempts (1,194).
• In three seasons at Augsburg, Sonnenfeld now has 199 catches for 3,305 yards, moving into second place in school history in career receiving yardage. His 37 receiving touchdowns as an Auggie are third-best in school history, and his 199 catches are fifth-best.


FOR THE FOES
• Sam Sura rushed 21 times for 195 yards and three touchdowns, while also catching a 13-yard touchdown pass. He had a one-yard rushing touchdown and 13-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, than scored on touchdowns of five and 78 yards in the second half.
• Josh Bungum caught seven passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns, while Nick Simon caught four passes for 64 yards.
• Nick Martin completed 14-of-18 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing seven times for 63 yards.
• Drake Matuska had 11 tackles (three solo) and a sack, while Carter Hanson had nine tackles (five solo) and Garrett Ackerman had eight tackles (seven solo).
