Auggies open season with loss to Tommies at Showcase

BLAINE, Minn. -- Eli May (SO, Eagan, Minn.) and Lukas Gillett (FY, Rosemount, Minn.) scored goals for Augsburg College goals in a 4-2 loss to the University of St. Thomas in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Hockey Showcase game on Friday evening at the Schwan SuperRink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• May scored from Luke Dietsch (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and Gillette at the 2:45 mark of the second period.
• Gillett scored his first collegiate goal at the 19:20 mark of the third period, assisted by Rory Vesel (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS).
• Corbin Chapman (JR, Burnsville, Minn.) had six shots on-goal for the Auggies, while May and Evan Hesse (SO, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS) had four shots each. Brady Bender (FY, Steamboat Springs, Colo.) had three shots.
• St. Thomas outshot Augsburg by a 31-30 margin, though the Auggies had a 13-7 advantage in the third period.
• Jordyn Kaufer (SO, Stillwater, Minn.), a transfer from Concordia-Moorhead making his Augsburg debut in goal, had 27 saves.

FOR THE FOES
• Thomas Williams scored two goals for St. Thomas -- the Tommies' first goal of the game at the 6:58 mark of the first period, and an empty-net goal at the 19:12 mark of the third period.
• Joakim Brockberg scored a power-play goal for the Tommies at the 5:24 mark of the second period, and Michael Dockry scored at the 15:39 mark of the third period.
• Joe Morris had 28 saves in goal for the Tommies.
