Flynn's 4 goals lead Auggies in 5-0 win

BLAINE, Minn. -- Nate Flynn (SO, Hastings, Minn.) scored four straight goals in claiming his second career hat trick, leading the Augsburg College men's hockey team to a 5-0 win over Saint John's University in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Hockey Showcase game on Sunday afternoon at the Schwan SuperRink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• May scored from Eli May (SO, Eagan, Minn.) and Mack Ohnsted (SR, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS) at the 14:52 mark of the first period, just 15 seconds after the Auggies' first goal, scored by Eric Brenk (FY, Moorhead, Minn.) from Drew Allen (SR, Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley HS) and Luke Dietsch (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS).
• Flynn scored at the 13:46 mark of the second period, scoring from Corbin Chapman (JR, Burnsville, Minn.) and Max Pernhem (SO, Stockholm, Sweden/Dragonskolan), then notched his hat trick with a shorthanded goal with a minute left in the frame, scoring from Ohnsted.
• Flynn completed his scoring effort with a power-play goal at the 4:15 mark of the third period, assisted by Ohnsted.
• Augsburg outshot Saint John's by a 29-19 margin in the game.
• Making his first collegiate start and second collegiate appearance in goal, Brandon Jones (SR, Fridley, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) stopped all 19 shots he faced to claim his first win and first shutout. 


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Flynn's effort marked the first four-goal performance for the Auggies since Ben McClellan scored four goals in a 9-2 win over Northland (Wis.) on Nov. 22, 2013.

• Jones' only other collegiate appearance in goal was on Jan. 31, 2014, playing the final 7:03 of a 5-1 loss to St. Thomas. He had five saves and did not allow a goal in that appearance.
• Jones is also a two-time All-MIAC member of Augsburg's men's golf team, which won the MIAC championship earlier this fall.


FOR THE FOES
• Sean Lang had four shots on-goal for Saint John's, while Andrew Commers and Huba Sekesi had three shots each.
• Saxton Soley had 14 saves in goal in the first two periods for the Johnnies, with Tyler Nelson claiming 10 saves in the third period.
