Augsburg falls 3-0 to Blugolds in opener

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College outshot the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire by a 25-15 margin, but the Blugolds got the best of the Auggies in a 3-0 decision in a nonconference women's hockey game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg outshot UW-Eau Claire by a 10-2 margin in the first period en route to the 25-15 game advantage, but could not get a shot past Blugold goalie Paige Turner, who picked up the shutout win.
• Danielle Heitkamp (JR, Bismarck, N.D./Grand Rapids (Minn.) HS) and Megan Robertson (SO, Boissevain, Manitoba) had four shots each for the Auggies, while Kayla Fuechtmann (SR, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) and Megan Johnson (FY, Madison, Wis./Memorial HS) had three shots each.
• Augsburg was held scoreless on six power-play opportunities in the game.
• Erika Allen (SR, Roseville, Minn.) had 12 saves in goal for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Seven different Blugolds figured in the scoring. Lauren Nogren scored from Rachel Azuma at the 6:51 mark of the second period, Mariah Czech scored from Paige Dale and Emma Silkey at the 14:08 mark of the second period, and Ashley Baugher capped the scoring with an empty-net goal from Julia Osowski at the 19:00 mark of the third period.
• Turner stopped all 25 shots she faced in goal to claim the shutout victory.

• The two teams complete the season-opening nonconference series on Saturday (10/31) at 7 p.m. at the Hobbs Ice Arena in Eau Claire, Wis.
