Chapman's hat trick lifts Auggies to win

MINNEAPOLIS -- Corbin Chapman (JR, Burnsville, Minn.) collected his first collegiate hat trick, scoring the first three goals for Augsburg College in a 4-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stout in a nonconference men's hockey game on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Chapman claimed his first collegiate hat trick and second collegiate multi-goal game on Friday. Nate Flynn (SO, Hastings, Minn.) assisted on all three of Chapman's goals.
• Chapman opened the scoring with a goal 38 seconds into the game, assisted by Flynn.
• Chapman then scored twice in the third period to give the Auggies the lead, with a goal from Flynn and Max Pernhem (SO, Stockholm, Sweden/Dragonskolan) at the 7:21 mark and a goal from Rory Vesel (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) and Flynn at the 14:57 mark.
• Chris Nuth (JR, Trabuco Canyon, Calif./Mission Viejo HS) scored an empty-net goal with 1:05 left, assisted by Drew Anderson (SO, Rochester, Minn./Century HS), to cap the scoring for the Auggies.
• Augsburg outshot UW-Stout by a 42-19 margin. Chapman had six shots on-goal for the Auggies, while Flynn, Eli May (SO, Eagan, Minn.) and Trevor Stewart (JR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) had four shots each.
• Jordyn Kaufer (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) had 18 saves in goal for the Auggies to pick up the win. 


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• With Flynn's four-goal effort in Augsburg's 5-0 win over Saint John's on Nov. 1, Chapman's hat trick gives Augsburg two on the season, the first time the Auggies have had two hat tricks in one season since the 2011-12 campaign.

FOR THE FOES
• Karl Anderson scored the lone goal of the game for UW-Stout at the 2:35 mark of the second period, assisted by Jordan Stejskal.
• Spencer Viele had 38 saves in goal for UW-Stout.
