Auggies claim 2-1 OT win over No. 12 Falcons

MINNEAPOLIS -- Evan Hesse (SO, Monticello, Minn./Palmer (Alaska) HS) scored the game-winning goal 3:36 into overtime, giving Augsburg College a 2-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in a nonconference men's hockey game on Saturday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Hesse scored the game-winning goal, his first goal of the season, on assists from Corbin Chapman (JR, Burnsville, Minn.) and Eli May (SO, Eagan, Minn.).
• Trailing 1-0 after two periods, Augsburg tied the game on a shorthanded, breakaway goal by Nate Flynn (SO, Hastings, Minn.), his team-leading sixth goal of the season, at the 7:08 mark of the third period.
• Both teams had 25 shots in the game. Augsburg outshot UW-River Falls by a 13-11 mark in the third period and overtime. Chapman had five shots on-goal, while Hesse had four shots.
• Jordyn Kaufer (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) had 24 saves in goal for the Auggies to pick up the win.

• Flynn is tied for second among MIAC players in overall statistics with six goals on the season. He stands tied for fourth among MIAC players with 10 points.
• Kaufer's 1.97 goals-against-average is second-best among MIAC goalkeepers in overall statistics, while his .920 save percentage is third-best.

• UW-River Falls entered the game ranked No. 12 in the lastest USCHO.com Division III national poll.
• Michael Lant scored the lone goal of the game for the Falcons, a goal from Zach Schrotenboer at the 3:06 mark of the second period.
• Tanner Milliron had 23 saves in goal for UW-River Falls.
