Auggies open MIAC play with 3-1 win at Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. -- Claiming its third straight victory, the Augsburg College men's hockey team opened Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 victory over host Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday evening at Don Roberts Ice Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Goalie Jordyn Kaufer (SO, Stillwater, Minn.) stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced to claim the victory, his third straight win in goal.
• Trevor Stewart (JR, Highlands Ranch, Colo./Eastmont HS), a transfer from Norwich (Vt.), scored his first goal as an Auggie 30 seconds into the second period, assisted by Rory Vesel (JR, Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS).
• Lucas Hendrickson (SR, Savage, Minn./Burnsville HS) scored a shorthanded goal at the 9:01 mark of the second period, assisted by Mack Ohnsted (SR, Vernon Hills, Ill./Adali E. Stevenson HS) and Andy Faust (SO, Stillwater, Minn./Hill-Murray HS). It was the first point as an Auggie for Faust, a transfer from the U.S. Military Academy.
• Will Peterson (SO, Eagan, Minn.) put the Auggies ahead 3-0 at the 10:01 mark of the third period, scoring an even-strength goal from Ohnsted.
• Augsburg outshot Gustavus by a 30-25 margin, including a 7-2 advantage inthe first period and 17-8 advantage in the second period.
• Stewart and Brady Bender (FY, Steamboat Springs, Colo.) had four shots on-goal each for Augsburg. 


FOR THE FOES
• Colin Hernon scored for the Gusties with 36 seconds remaining in the game, scoring from Jake Bushey and Jake McCann.
• Chris Amsden had 27 saves in goal for Gustavus.
