Auggies start season with thrilling victory over St. Scholastica

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg College women's basketball team rallied from a 10-point deficit to take the lead with just five seconds remaining and was able to claim a thrilling 63-62 season-opening victory over the College of St. Scholastica in nonconference action on Saturday afternoon at Si Melby Hall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• In a game that featured 11 ties and seven lead changes, Augsburg was able to rally over the final 2:11 of play, scoring 11 unanswered points, to secure the victory.
• In the final minute, Allison McKee (SR, New Brighton, Minn./Mounds View HS) hit a huge three-pointer, Carlee Kobow (FY, Becker, Minn.) converted on a layup and Hannah Steinhaus (SO, Waterville, Minn./Waterville-Elysian-Morristown HS) went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, while the Auggie defense forced four Saints turnovers to seal the come-from-behind victory.
• Steinhaus led the Auggies with 12 points on a 3-of-4 shooting performance from the floor, and a perfect 6-for-6 night at the free-throw line, while posting a team-high five rebounds.
Ashley Anfinson (SR, Watertown, Minn. /Watertown-Mayer HS) also finished in double figures for the Auggies, leading the team with three 3-pointers, while adding an assist and a steal.
• McKee had a great debut night for the Auggies, scoring 10 points, while adding a game-high seven assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Jessica Lillquist recorded a career-high seven steals, while adding nine points and a pair of rebounds.

• For the game, Augsburg shot 41.1 percent (23-of-56) from the floor, while St. Scholastica connected on 44.7 percent (21-of-47) of its field-goal attempts.
• St. Scholastica claimed a 37-27 advantage on the boards.
• Augsburg forced 30 St. Scholastica turnovers and outscored the Saints 27-13 in points off turnovers.

FOR THE FOES
• St. Scholastica finished with a pair of players in double figures, led by Kelsey Sorenson, who finished with 24 points on 7-of-16 shooting, which included a 4-of-8 effort from 3-point range.
• Brittani Brennan led all players with nine rebounds, while adding 10 points and a pair of assists.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg honored the memory of head coach Bill McKee, who passed away on Aug. 27, 2015 after a battle with kidney cancer. The Auggies will be wearing special "Bill" patches on their uniforms to honor Bill McKee's memory during the 2015-16 season.
• The game marked the Augsburg debut of new head coach Ted Riverso, who had previously served as head coach at St. Thomas for 15 seasons and as an assistant coach at Minnesota for eight seasons.
